Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri has been a popular Indian actress who achieved recognition for her performance in Hum Aapke Hain Koun and Beta Saajan. She began her career in the late 1980s, and rose to popularity with her role in the film Tezaab where she starred with veteran actor Anil Kapoor. In the following film, Dil, Aamir Khan appeared with her. In Mumbai, she was raised by middle class parents. At a very young age, she started to study dance. She began acting when she was young and fought for several years because many of her early films were flops. Then she found her way to success and she was one of the top actors in the Indian film industry. After her marriage was over, she took a few months away from performing until she returned. Recenty, she had a major role in Gulaab Gang. The film focused on the struggles of women in India. Dixit received fifteen Filmfare Awards nominations, of which, eight were awarded. Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award given to civilians in India is bestowed to Dixit. She also has a reputation for her social activism.
